There are many strategies that are implemented by athletes in an attempt to achieve peak performance. This has been occurring since the dawn of human competitions. A valid argument can be made that one of the most important, if not the most important attempt to achieve peak performance is to optimize athlete recovery.
The bottom line is that the faster and more completely an athlete can recover after training or after a competition, the better they will perform and the greater short- and long-term gains may be obtained.
During Athlete Recovery
- Hydration and electrolyte replacement should occur
- Detoxification occurs, including the elimination of excess lactic acid
- Inflammation is brought under control
- Muscles heal and build
- Fascia, connective tissue and the nervous system recuperates
- Proper nutrition and supplementation should be focused on in order to provide the body with the raw materials that are needed to recover
FIR Industries produces a number of tourmaline-infused products that have the potential to help athlete recovery in ways that many never knew existed. The feedback that we have received from athletes pertaining to athlete recovery and performance has been phenomenal. We are planning clinical trials starting later this year, which we will need prior to making any claims.
The smaller the tourmaline particle is, a greater amount of infrared energy is generated per gram of tourmaline. That is why FIR Industries uses nanometer-sized tourmaline particles to infuse into their products, which are the smallest particles that can be manufactured today.
The Three Energies Produced by Tourmaline
Energy #1 – Thermal-Photonic Conversion
This is the energy conversion of body heat into far infrared energy. This occurs on the surface of the tourmaline. far infrared energy increases blood oxygen levels, improves microcirculation and even stimulates the growth of new blood vessels. Infrared energy also helps the mitochondria, which are the powerhouses of our cells, to produce energy more efficiently.
Energy #2 – Negative Ions
Generated by tourmaline when it is in contact with any movement energy, such as pushing, pulling, stretching, striking, rubbing or oscillating. This is called a piezoelectric effect. Negative ions will make the tissue more alkaline, which is a healthier cell environment than an acidic environment. Negative ions also scavenge free radicals, reduce oxidative stress and reduce inflammation.
Energy #3 – A Pyroelectric Effect
A mild therapeutic flow of electrons are also produced by the tourmaline particles, with a rise or fall in temperature. Tourmaline particles each have a north pole (negative) and a south pole (positive). Everything from a bar magnet to the earth that has a north and south pole produces an energy field. Tourmaline is no exception. This energy may be the most powerful and therapeutic of the three energies. Tourmaline generated energy fields are related to the Schumann Resonance, which is the resonating energy which occurs between the earth and the ionosphere. That resonance is 7.83Hz and is referred to as the earth’s “heartbeat” or “pulse”.
What FIR Products Have Athletes Considered Helpful for Recovery?
The most positive feedback from athletes about recovery has occurred after they have experienced the Tourma®Blanket and the entire Tourma®Line of Sleep Better Products, which includes the Tourma®Blanket, the Tourma®Mattress Cover and the Tourma®Pillow Cover. Athletes have reported that after sleeping with these products, they wake up feeling much better than they would normally feel after a hard training session or a competition. They also frequently report being more alert and feeling like they have more energy. Scientific evidence has been established that tourmaline helps to increase alpha brain waves, as well as serotonin levels. Serotonin is called the “feel good” hormone.
Tourma®Sport includes tourmaline-infused wraps, supports and clothing, which all produce the 3 energies of tourmaline, along with all of the therapeutic benefits. There are also a number of other testimonial claims as to the performance of these products, which are too numerous to list at this time. Many athletes enjoy wearing Tourma®Socks during training and competition. The most common comment from athletes about the tourmaline infused socks is that their feet don’t get as tired and as sore as they usually do.
